Nele was born in Flanders, Belgium in 1989. She went to university at age 17 and received her first Master’s Degree (Master of Science in Film and Television Studies) four years later at the University of Ghent. At this moment she decided that she wanted to study film in the United States - but she would need an entire year to prepare and send applications. During that year she obtained another Master’s Degree (Master of Science in Film and Visual Culture) at the University of Antwerp.

Nele was accepted at the University of Miami and left for the United States in pursuit of her third Master’s Degree in Motion Picture Production. While her first two Master Degrees had a more academic approach to film studies, the UM program focused more on the actual practice of filmmaking, something Nele had been very eager to learn about. Since she had been studying film from a more theoretical viewpoint in Belgium, even though she enjoyed that very much, she couldn’t wait to start writing, directing, producing and editing her own projects.

Her academic background, her extensive knowledge of film theory and history and her enthusiasm as a Teacher’s Assistant for several UM professors all contributed to the department offering her the job of adjunct-professor during her third and last year. Twice a week, Nele taught a class of more than one hundred students about classical cinema, the auteur theory, genres, the production process of films, what happens on a film set, etc. Her students were very excited about these classes and many left raving reviews on their evaluation forms.

For her thesis project, Nele directed, co-produced and edited a feature-length fiction film called Onverdedigbaar (Untenable) in three different countries (Belgium, France and England) with an international cast and crew. The project was filmed over the course of two summers and ended up being over an hour long. Besides this feature film she also directed and edited a documentary in Guatemala and several short films. She also wrote three feature-length screenplays.

During her last semester at the University of Miami, Nele was hired to direct Rock Bottom, a short film that's part of a series called Deliberations. This series of films handles medical ethics issues and was produced by the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. After directing and editing Rock Bottom, Nele was also hired to be the Post Production Supervisor and the Sound Designer for the entire Deliberations series.

After successfully graduating from UM and obtaining her Master of Fine Arts in Motion Picture Production, Nele moved to London to start her career in the film and TV industry. There she has edited a short film for an award-winning director, worked as a first assistant director and script consultant, volunteered at the London Screenings.

She started a career in post production as the second assistant editor on Yesterday, the latest Danny Boyle film. Ever since then she's been working in the capacity of assistant editor on several well known films (such as The King's Man and The Lost King) and tv series (such as The Crown and The Essex Serpent).
